Your Best Summer Skin

Are you ready for summer?

Even if you are not – your skin is working overtime to adjust to the change in climate. Here in South Africa, we have a varied summer, from dry heat to hot and humid, each contributing to a different way our skin reacts.

If you have an oily to combination skin, you might find the humid weather plays havoc on your already shiny situation. Those with dry complexion will battle more in the more arid parts of the country. It is good to know your skin type and how to work with what you have, season by season.

A good skin care routine that is consistent will help you achieve the right glow this summer.

Have you considered a facial, it’s a great way to rejuvenate your complexion? La Vita Spa offers an array of treatments, from those that help to reduce the appearance of fine lines to a non-invasive facelift. Say goodbye to the winter blues by having a Majestic Milanese Facial, which cleanses and gently exfoliates the skin.

A good tip to remember over summer it to exfoliate once a week, this assists with removing dead skin cells. Find a sunscreen that also works for your skin type, some are oil-free or more focused on moisturising the skin.

Try Body Brushing Today!

I have started incorporating body brushing in my everyday lifestyle. It is a traditional technique to help remove dead skin, build-up and stimulate the lymphatic system, help eliminate waste. Some experts claim that body brushing can even dissolve cellulite and prevent premature ageing while obtaining brighter, smoother, softer looking skin.

 Stimulates your Lymphatic System

The lymphatic system is responsible for eliminating cellular waste products. Lymphatic congestion doesn’t allow drainage of toxins and waste from the body that could lead to inflammation and disease. Dry brushing every day stimulates your lymphatic system and helps release toxins.

Exfoliate

Dry brushing removes dead skin cells and unclogs blocked pores allowing your skin to breathe and improves its appearance.

Eliminate Metabolic Waste

Dry brush every day before bath to increase blood circulation and remove metabolic waste.

Feel Good

Dry brushing can have an invigorating effect. Apart from tightening skin and improving its appearance, a quick session of dry brushing can make you feel energized and rejuvenated.

 Improve Digestion

Dry brushing can help with bloating as it massages the lymph nodes and helps in shedding of excess water and toxins. It also improves digestion and kidney function.

I Exfoliate My Skin….Do You?

La Vita Spa I exfoliate my skin at least two times a week using the Delicious Body Exfoliator that I buy from La Vita Spa. The exfoliator has apricot seed powder that keeps my skin glowing. I have been using this exfoliator for the past two years. Exfoliation is one of the most important skincare routines for your face and body. It assists in removing dead skin, blackheads and whiteheads and also smoothens your skin texture to reveal radiant and flawless skin.

Here are some tips in getting your exfoliation routine right.

Always chose the correct exfoliator for your skin type so that you get the desired results. If you have a normal skin type use a scrub with finely ground particles with lactic acid that will absorb oil from your “T-Zone”. For dry skin rather use a exfoliator with super fine particles and ingredients such as brown sugar and grape seed oil.

  • When you exfoliate your skin, exfoliate in circular motion and let the product do the job. Don’t be heavy – handed with your scrub or you will cause redness and skin sensitivity.
  • If you have a normal skin type or an oily skin type exfoliate your face twice a week but if your skin is sensitive only exfoliate once a week.
  • After you exfoliate, wash your face with Luke warm water and pat dry with a towel, use a night cream or hydrating serum to lock in the moisture. I use the La Vera night cream for my face.

Better get some Butter!

Winter is here! Throughout South Africa we are feeling the chill…

There is snow on the berg and we have piled on the scarves and beanies. The coffee is flowing and our heaters and hot water bottles are in full use. One part of winter we don’t like is dry skin, that tight and sometimes ashy skin.

Did you know you that La Vita Spa’s have the most awesome range of body butters? You can purchase them from the online store, or when visiting one of our spas you can pick your favourite.

My top pick is the Olive Oil with Vitamin E Premium Shea Body Butter. It is so rich and creamy, after apply the lotion you can instantly feel your skin softening.

Go have a look for yourself.

10 Simple Steps for Smooth Flawless Complexion

Both men and woman are conscious of their skin complexion but when it comes to skin care we only focus on our face. Taking care of the face is important but we should not ignore the rest of our body because that’s the only way you can boost a healthy skin.

Let’s get started on how you can achieve that smooth and flawless complexion by following these simple and easy steps.

  1. Take a bath or shower everyday this will help to unclog your pores and give your skin a refreshing feeling.
  2. Exfoliate your skin. This helps to remove dead skin cells so that you can have smooth and healthy skin.
  3. Use a bath sponge or loofah this helps to improve blood circulation due to the rubbing action. This results in healthy and rejuvenated skin.
  4. Avoid using soap for your face and body. Soaps are acidic and can affect the PH balance of your skin resulting in a rough and dry skin.
  5. Always remember to wash your face twice a day. Wash in the morning and before you go to bed.
  6. Use a facial scrub to remove dry and dead cells.
  7. Use a facial wash when washing your face. It contains less chemical than soap.
  8. Make a habit to apply moisturizing cream every night. Try the La Vera Regenerating Anti Aging night cream fortified with Green Rooibos extract. Vitamin A and Olive Oil provides intensive moisture and supports the skins renewal process and natural balance during the night leaving an intensively rehydrated and rejuvenated skin.
  9. Drink at least 8 glasses of water per day to keep your skin soft and hydrated.
  10. Let your skin breathe at least once a week. Have a “no makeup” rule at least once a week.
  11. Also I highly recommend that at least every 6 weeks you have a professional facial.

La Vita Spas where I go regularly have 25 odd spas around the country and even some in the UK. They use a great anti ageing range and since I’m over the 40 mark I love the way I feel after one of their anti ageing facials.
